However, Sanders is Ransom's personal pilot and insists on using Sanders for his next trip to Earth. During pre-flight checks Sanders is edgy. While in flight a minor fault occurs in the shuttle, But instead of getting help from Moonbase 3 he shuts down communications and goes outside the ship to do the repairs himself. While doing to repairs he miscalculates and is thrown into space. A desperate Ransom tries to pilot the ship himself. Seconds later it explodes...
With the future of Moonbase 3 in doubt a new director, Welsh scientist David Caulder is appointed to Moonbase 3. His first task is to investigate Ransom's death and just why Sanders was allowed to fly that shuttle when both Smith and Lebrun knew about Sander's mental state and Tom Hill, in charge of flight control had his suspicions too... |
