Story:  Hazell has been hired to investigate the Abrey family by a friend of his, solicitor Gordon Gregory.  Hazell doesn't know why he's investigating them but the money's good so he doesn't argue.  The reason for the investigation is explained when the client, Georgina Gunning, arrives from America.  She has just discovered that the daughter she has been bringing up as her own isn't hers.  It appears that her daughter was swapped at birth with the Avery's daughter...

Story:  Hazell goes to see George Bradley about a job.  Bradley is worried about his mother.  He wants Hazell to find out about a Mr. Norman.  Norman is lodging with Bradley's mother.  Norman is always away during the week.  He is a very secretive man and refuses to reveal anything about himself.  Bradley thinks Norman may be trying to take advantage of his mother.  Hazell isn't convinced but is forced to take the job because of money trouble.  Hazell begins to follow Mr. Norman but things take a strange turn when, after taking a train journey, Mr. Norman enters the toilets at the railway station and fails to come out again...
